ALL STAR ZONE TEAM
GENERAL INFORMATION
What is the Zone Meet? The Zone Meet is an Age Group Championship Meet bringing together the top swimmers from the Eastern Zone. States from Maine down to Virginia are represented in the Eastern Zone. It is a great privilege to be selected to represent Allegheny Mountain Swimming (AMS) at this meet. Everyone who has participated in the past has had a great time.
When is the Zone Meet? The Zone Meet is held at the end of both the short course and long course seasons. Usually the short course meet is held in late March or early April. The long course meet is usually held early August.
Where is the Zone Meet? From year to year the site of the Zone Meet may vary. In the past, meets have been held in Glouchester New Jersey, Buffalo New York, Andover Maryland, and Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.
Who qualifies for the Zone Meet? Swimmers wishing to represent AMS must be currently registered with USA Swimming. The following are additional criteria for Team selection:
Short Course Season:
Qualifying period is September 1 through spring Age Group Championships.
The swimmer must have competed in at least three AMS sanctioned meets over six days swimming at least 18 individual events over the course of those meets.
Based upon all meet results of the short course season that have been entered in the AMS data base, those swimmers ranked first and second in each event will be selected for the Team. (There are situations where the third or lower finishers may also be chosen for the Team.)
A completed Zone Team application form must be submitted by a designated deadline.
Long Course Season:
Those swimmers attaining the required "Zone Cut" times, generally AAA times, will be eligible for the Team. These times are available on the AMS web site.
The swimmer must have competed in at least two AMS sanctioned meets over four days swimming at least 12 individual events over the course of those meets.
A completed Zone Team application form must be submitted by a designated deadline.
How does a swimmer apply for the Zone Team? The Zone Team application will be available at AMS "A" meets though out the year. The application will also be available on-line at the AMS web site.
More information? Once selected for the Team, swimmers travel together by bus as a Team. They will be housed, clothed, chaperoned, feed and coached as a Team while attending the Zone Meet. The Zone Coordinator as well as several parent chaperones will be traveling with the Team. An informational meeting for swimmers and parents will be held approximately two weeks before leaving for the Zone Meet. This meeting will provide all the pertinent information concerning the Meet.
